While spectating one of the first Mclaren GTR private track days at Laguna Seca, one of the demo/factory owned P1 GTRs nearly crashed into the concrete barrier at the infamous corkscrew turn. The car was being driven by a professional driver; he was to set a laptime so the P1 GTR clients can try to match or beat the lap he sets. He was going absolutely 100% and overtook a handful of drivers.
Luckily nobody was injured and no other cars were involved. Either way, it was insane to witness it firsthand.

at least he was trying to get the best out of it
To anyone who thinks they coulda saved it, (I’m a professional outlaw super late model driver fyi) he kept in the throttle so that the rear end would come around, I’ve done victory doughnuts (in my shop parking area) and once you’re spinning staying in it will kick the rear end around until you let off or hit the brakes. This guy was also hired by McLaren themselves because he is a professional driver (probably 10x better then me I’m just an oval racer lmfao) and was setting the pace for everyone else. Promise most of you guys woulda completely let off as soon as it kicked loose, upsetting the cars balance, sending it straight into a wall, or you would of hit the brakes and went into a wall. (Ngl, I probably woulda saved it for a second before hitting the wall, my late model pushes 900hp, around the same as the P1, but these are much more aero, and are much lighter. I probably woulda of overcorrected and smacked a wall myself. Again if anyone wants to talk about how he lost control, remind yourself that this is a professional driver and even pros wreck. Jimmie Johnson and Luis Hamilton have wrecked before
All the expert comments section is amazing. Pretty sure most of them have never driven down the corkscrew.
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😓😓😓😓😓😓😓😓😓😓😓😓😓😓
The brakes is weaking
Too soon to power. Gotta have patience right there with a high HP car. Rear is light going downhill already. Throwing in steering and too much throttle and this happens.
I always crashed in that spot in GT2.. Verry difficult course
Any underbody damage? Those P1s are low to the ground
Not super into the dude behind camera celebrating the crash. I just hope when/if he ever wrecks, he hears somebody on the sideline: "Yeaaa baby!"
very good~!
Worlds first.
The brake squeal is common on carbon ceramic brakes. People will say that it's 'normal' but I think it's a defect. I have a 2016 Turbo S and a 2016 650S with 22,000+ and 12,000+ miles respectively I track both a lot. The left rear rotor on the McLaren started squealing the first day I tracked it. Just that one. The other 3 are fine. The Porsche never squeals . The brakes on both have been visibly glowing at times so all 8 rotors are under stress. Just one rotor squeals though. Go figure.
That p1 is fkn loud
Someone crashes a mclaren I will kill the driver
If he had more steering angle he might have pulled it off
oooooooooooooooooof
